Lake Ming
Lake Ming County Park

To walk around Lake Ming was just a spur of the moment thing, but there it is and there I was and it is possible to walk around it. Besides, there was this weird goose that was just standing around in the cold wind.
There is no path to start around the lake, only the parking lot or the picnic areas to walk through. There's not really anyone to disturb while walking through the picnic areas today since the wind is just getting stronger and coming right across the water for maximum chill. There are a few visitors, but all are out moving in some way. A few are fishing.
At the end of the lot is a wide road signed for pedestrians and bikes and definitely no motor vehicles.
The road continues on, but there is a paved path to the left to continue around the lake beside the Kern River. It also curves around past the pumping station that brings water from the river up into the lake that is really a reservoir.
The lake does seem to have the full complement of the sexy water foul, even on a cold and blustery day like today. In particular, the larger of the herons and egrets.
It is a bit disturbing as I come upon a dead beaver. It is the closest I have ever seen one of these strange creatures, but certainly not the way I would like to. The river trail continues on although a sign says it is ending as a bike route. A dirt path to the side connects with more parking lot and picnic areas. There must be more park above, because there seem to be a lot of people looking over the railings up there.
There are docks dividing the two picnic areas. No one is using them today except for a fellow who seems to be teaching his daughter to fish.
And so I come back around to my start.
